Now that the holy month of Ramadan has come to an end, perhaps it is about time for Jakarta’s gourmands and urbanites to return to one of their beloved rituals: having a lovely brunch with their friends, family, or colleagues. The culinary scene in Jakarta has transformed dramatically post-COVID-19 pandemic as well, which also means that the Jakartans might need to reconsider which cafe or bistro should be their new rendezvous morning.

Maple & Oak
First established its home in the Menteng neighbourhood in 2016, Maple & Oak has stunned both the regulars and the tastemakers with its mouth-watering brunch menu that caters to almost all kinds of dietary preferences. The restaurant’s Maple Butter & Brioche dishes up brioche slices complemented by folded scrambled eggs, house greens, maple and truffle butter, and beef bacon. For brunch-ers who are looking for a bigger portion and more robust sustenance for the rest of the day, Maple & Oak’s Big Breakfast, consisting of two customisable eggs, avocado, grilled cherry tomato, toasted sourdough, kielbasa sausage, beef bacon, and assorted sauteed mushrooms, might do just the trick. As for the ladies who are cautious of their carb consumption, Maple & Oak is also notable for its smoked salmon paired with arugula salad.

Levant Boulangerie Pâtisserie
A traditional French bakery that is also a French-Mediterranian bistro, Levant Boulangerie Pâtisserie has charmed the Jakartans with elegant, unpretentious decor and its signature pastries known as Viennoiseries — the latter are handmade and use premium butter imported from Belgium as their main ingredient. Levant Boulangerie Pâtisserie also prides itself for making all of the French, classic pastries daily by hand, such as Brioche bread, pain au chocolat, almond croissants, pépite de feuilleté, and pain au raisin. Orient8
Located within the premise of the iconic Hotel Mulia, Jakarta, Orient8 has made a name for itself as one of the go-to brunch destinations among the city’s epicures and elites. Serving Asian and French cuisine bolstered with sumptuous French colonial interior style, Orient8 is a scenic, Sunday morning haven for anyone who wishes to catch up with their friends and/or family while also indulging themselves in deliciously themed delights. For example, in the spirit of the Easter weekend this year, Orient8, along with other restaurants within Hotel Mulia, is offering a thematic menu billed as “Eggstraordinary Tastes” on which the restaurant dishes up seasonal flavours and festive treats with eggs being the central ingredient. Scarlett’s House
This latest extension to Scarlett’s brand and franchise has taken the Blok M neighbourhood by storm thanks to its accessible location (only a few minutes of walk from the nearby Blok M MRT Station) and photogenic delicacies that practically demand Instagram and Pinterest shout-outs. Perhaps what separates Scarlett’s House from Scarlett’s Cafe, whose outlets can be found in Senopati and Pantai Indah Kapuk neighbourhoods, is how the former’s Bohemian desserts are appealing enough among the young adults and college students in the city, whose palates have grown more sophisticated and their expectations higher than ever. Scarlett’s House’s vanilla Basque cheesecake flips the script on what is otherwise a traditional Paris-Brest pastry whereas the chai latte passionfruit sheet cake imagines what kind of epicurean adventure that a fusion of walnut white chocolate bark, walnut sponge, ruby chocolate coating, chai latte cream, and passionfruit pulp compote would stir up.

Anigré Restaurant
Situated within the premise of Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, Anigré Restaurant dishes up a marvellous gastronomic adventure elevated to the next level by live music entertainment, creating a vibrant, invigorating ambience for both the regulars and the first-timers. Bogor Cafe
Nestled within Hotel Borobudur Jakarta, Bogor Cafe has established itself as one of the city’s restaurants to visit thanks to its so-called ‘Legendary Oxtail Soup’. Bogor Cafe has also introduced a weekend brunch menu that is made available only on Saturdays and Sundays, with the non-brunch, regular menu available every day. Bogor Cafe’s weekend brunch menu focuses on cross-border, intercontinental cuisine — from classic Indonesian cookery such as sate Padang to American-style roasted chicken.
