Officer Injured after Explosion at Police Warehouse

Explosion at Police Warehouse

A police warehouse in Central Java, which contained munitions stored from the Second World War, exploded earlier today.

An officer is known to have been injured, while nearby residents were evacuated.

The warehouse belongs to the Mobile Police Brigade headquarters (Brimob) in Srondol, close to the city of Semarang. The explosion took place at 7am.

Some of the residents claimed to have found explosives in the warehouse, yet the exact cause of the explosion is still unknown. Firefighters have managed to tackle the blaze, and no casualties have been reported so far.

It is suspected that the explosive materials dated back to the time when Japan colonised Indonesia between 1942 and 1945, during WW2.
