Forty Seven Swimmers from Jakarta Stranded in Hong Kong

Swimmers from Jakarta Stranded in Hong Kong

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has confirmed that forty-seven swimming athletes from Jakarta were stranded at Hong Kong International Airport due to massive protests.

However, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has since said that the athletes are staying in the Indonesian consulate general office (KJRI) in Hong Kong.

“They are now safe at the KJRI,” Anies stated. The anti-government protests in Hong Kong have been taking place for the last few months. However, for the last few days the protestors have managed to bring the airport to a complete halt. The athletes have been in Hong Kong since 6th August and are due to return to Indonesia on Monday 12th August.

Anies also praised the KJRI’s swift response regarding the issue. Their flight back to Indonesia had been rescheduled to 14th August via Garuda Indonesia.
