LRT Jakarta’s Velodrome-Manggarai route is set to begin full operations despite the postponement of its official inauguration ceremony.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed the readiness of LRT Jakarta ahead of its inauguration. He inspected the final preparations and conducted a test run on the Velodrome-Manggarai line. Anung stated that infrastructure construction for LRT Jakarta, including the tracks and elevated lines, is 100% complete.
“Overall, regarding the construction and completion of this LRT—specifically the tracks and elevated lines—everything is 100% finished,” Anung said, as cited in an official statement on Wednesday, the 26th of August.
The Velodrome-Manggarai route was scheduled to be inaugurated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at 9 AM on Wednesday. However, the inauguration ceremony has reportedly been postponed, as Subianto is undertaking an official trip to personally inspect areas in East Nusa Tenggara affected by the recent earthquake. As of this writing, there is no information yet regarding a rescheduled date for the official inauguration. Nevertheless, LRT Jakarta will still be able to commence full operations as scheduled.
According to Anung, LRT Jakarta will operate from 5 AM to midnight and will have the capacity to serve between 60,000 and 80,000 passengers daily during its initial phase. The fare has been set at a flat rate of Rp5,000 until October 2026, after which the Jakarta Provincial Government will determine the applicable fare—with an official decision on potential fare adjustments targeted for completion in October as well.
“So, for the time being—up until October—we will continue using the current flat fare of Rp5,000 per trip. Hopefully, by October, a decision can be reached regarding the fare structure for the LRT Jakarta system as a whole,” Anung stated.
The Jakarta Provincial Government’s next project will be the LRT’s construction extension to Dukuh Atas. The total investment allocated for the construction of the LRT line from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas amounts to Rp2.7 trillion. This investment includes the procurement of approximately 16 train sets.
