IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled a first look at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, which is set to debut later this year as the luxury lifestyle brand’s highly anticipated arrival in Indonesia.
Designed as an extension of Bali’s creative energy, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will embody Kimpton’s signature approach to heartfelt hospitality, intuitive service and design-led spaces that encourage curiosity and connection.
Located on Jalan Bisma, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud sits in the heart of Ubud, just a short walk from some of the area’s most iconic landmarks, including the Ubud Art Market, Ubud Palace and Water Palace, which was designed by renowned Balinese master artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.
Guests will enjoy Kimpton’s signature brand experiences, including the complimentary “Forgot It, We’ve Got It!” programme, which provides thoughtfully curated travel essentials; Kimpton Kickstart, offering complimentary daily coffee, tea and pastries; and the brand’s celebrated Kimpton Social, an evening gathering designed to spark conversation and connection.

Austin Jones, General Manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, brings extensive experience within the Kimpton family and a deep understanding of lifestyle-led hospitality. Having contributed to the opening and operation of nearly a dozen Kimpton properties across the brand, he now leads Kimpton’s debut in Indonesia.
“It’s an honour to introduce Kimpton to Indonesia in a place as culturally rich and creatively vibrant as Ubud,” said Jones. “Kimpton Suntaya is designed to feel open, soulful and connected, not just to the landscape, but also to the people who live and travel here. We want this hotel to become a vibrant gathering place where guests and locals alike can experience Bali in a way that feels effortless, personal and unscripted.”
Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will offer 101 thoughtfully designed accommodations, including Essential Rooms, spacious Pool Suites and signature Private Pool Villas.
The hotel’s culinary programme will feature five distinctive dining destinations. Leading the offering is Imamura Ubud, an intimate omakase experience led by Michelin-starred Chef Hirofumi Imamura, who also oversees Shaku by Imamura, a refined yet playful interpretation of Japanese izakaya dining.
In a destination renowned for transformative retreats, Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will introduce a distinctive lifestyle and wellness programme, including a two-storey fitness studio and dedicated recovery facilities featuring modern movement and contrast therapy experiences. Sakshi Spa will draw on Balinese healing traditions to create restorative rituals for both body and mind.
The name “Suntaya” (pronounced SOON-TIE-yah) reflects both place and philosophy. Inspired by Sanskrit roots, with Suniya meaning stillness and Taya meaning vitality, the name captures Ubud’s unique rhythm, where retreat and gathering exist in equal measure.

Set alongside the Wos River, the hotel draws inspiration from the quiet strength of flowing water and the steady rhythm of the surrounding landscape. This balance of tranquillity and energy shapes every aspect of the guest experience, from the architecture and interiors to the way visitors move through the property. The result is a hotel that feels grounded, fluid and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
The architecture of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of Balinese ceremonial processions—celebrations characterised by movement, rhythm and collective energy.
Designed by Denton Corker Marshall, the property follows the natural contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside landscape, creating a layered composition that feels both monumental and intimate. Its façade and structural rhythm subtly echo the spirit of community and ceremony that defines Balinese culture.
Founded by Bill Kimpton in San Francisco in 1981, Kimpton pioneered the concept of distinctive, design-led lifestyle hotels in the United States. The luxury lifestyle brand made its Asian debut with the opening of Kimpton Da An Taipei and has since expanded rapidly across the region, including the award-winning Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok and Kimpton Kitalay Samui in Thailand, Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong, and Kimpton Naluria Kuala Lumpur.
This year, the brand will continue its global expansion with the openings of Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide, Kimpton Era Midtown New York, Kimpton De Post Rotterdam and Kimpton Shanghai 9 Tree Art Center.
