Indonesian cuisine is one of the world’s richest culinary traditions, yet for many international diners, it remains relatively unfamiliar.
Beyond widely recognised dishes such as rendang and nasi goreng, much of Indonesia’s food culture is still waiting to be discovered—layered with regional histories, indigenous ingredients, and generations of technique.
As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia is shaped by extraordinary diversity. Spanning thousands of islands and countless cultural traditions, its culinary heritage is not a single story, but a vast collection of local identities expressed through flavours, ritual, and craftsmanship.
At SEMAJA, that heritage is interpreted with contemporary artistry.

Tucked in the colonial neighbourhood of Menteng, SEMAJA transformed an old house into a modern Indonesian dining sanctuary that feels intimate, thoughtful, and artistically relevant. The space reflects this sensibility from the moment guests arrive: hand-painted batik on the walls, rattan lamps, and old wooden flooring-meets-new furnishings, all of which create an atmosphere that is unique, elegant, and unmistakably rooted in Indonesian culture. It is a setting designed not only to welcome, but to impress—especially when hosting clients, colleagues, or overseas guests.
Serving lunch and dinner between 11 AM and 11 PM, SEMAJA is designed for a range of occasions—from professional entertaining to intimate social gatherings. Guests can choose between the main dining room for a more formal setting or the indoor courtyard garden for a relaxed ambience with smoking tables. For business meetings, formal dinners, or special events that require greater privacy, two VIP rooms are also available.
What distinguishes the experience, however, is not only the ambience. At SEMAJA, every dish arrives with the story of its origin, allowing each meal to become a cultural journey as much as a culinary one. For business hosts, this transforms the table into something more meaningful: not just a place to dine, but a way to discover the beauty of Indonesia through taste, history, and story served with every dish.
In the kitchen, Executive Chef Glenn Erari aims to surprise and impress with his philosophical creations rooted in home-cooked or ancient recipes of the archipelago. His legendary dishes include: Empal Gentong, hearty coconut-broth beef soup presented in a charred whole coconut, and Sate Maranggi that holds on to its familiar Javanese sweet-and-savoury character, but elevated through the quality of its Wagyu beef and the precision of its grilling. Meanwhile, Ayam Bakar Bom, charcoal-smoked grilled chicken in a claypot, is a celebratory dish from Kalimantan (Borneo) that introduces diners to a lesser-known cultural tradition of the indigenous Dayak Tribe.
This same principle extends beyond the kitchen. At the bar, signature drinks are built around ingredients more commonly found in traditional kitchens: turmeric, pandan, and black glutinous rice—reimagined with sophistication while preserving their unique taste as well as cultural identity.
After dinner, the journey continues upstairs at Naaga Bar, which is an Indonesian artisanal speakeasy bar on the second floor, where thematic cocktails inspired by local heroes, stories, heritage, and treasures take you to a compelling finale to the evening.

Together, the restaurant and cocktail bar offer a compelling expression of Indonesia as both heritage and evolution—rooted in tradition, yet entirely relevant to the international palate.
For expatriates, executives, diplomats, and international guests whom you seek to impress, SEMAJA offers a rare kind of cultural dining experience: one that feels unmistakably Indonesian, yet thoughtfully elevated. Every meal is made refined enough for the VIPs, intimate enough for meaningful celebration, and tasteful enough to leave a lasting impression.
In a city where local hospitality is often lost and forgotten, SEMAJA offers something more nuanced. It invites guests to discover Indonesian culinary richness not as a collection of legendary dishes, but as a living art form. One that can be elegant, contemporary, and deeply cultural—all at once.
