I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, has officially added two new flight routes to Australia, connecting the island with Avalon and Sunshine Coast.
On Monday, the 23rd of March, a Jetstar aircraft operating flight JQ49 from Avalon Airport (AVV) arrived at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport at 8.56 PM Central Indonesian Time, before departing back to Avalon at 11.03 PM as flight JQ50, carrying 222 passengers.
“The Avalon–Denpasar route operated by Jetstar on Monday evening (23rd of March) marks the resumption of this service,” said General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Nugroho Jati, in Denpasar on Wednesday, the 25th of March.
Meanwhile, the flight from Sunshine Coast (MCY), which took place on Wednesday afternoon, the 25th of March, marked Jetstar’s inaugural service on route JQ86. The aircraft landed in Bali at 1.52 PM Central Indonesian Time carrying 229 passengers. This is the first time the route has been directly connected to Bali.
Jati stated that the opening of these routes by Jetstar reflects the airport’s continued efforts to strengthen international connectivity.
“The introduction of these routes is a strategic step to improve access for international travellers, particularly from Australia to the island of Bali,” he said.
Flights to Australia via the Avalon route will operate five times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, while the Sunshine Coast route will operate regularly three times per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
In addition to Jetstar, Indonesia AirAsia has also recently expanded connectivity from Bali by launching two new direct international routes to Adelaide and Sydney.
For reference, Australia continues to be the largest source of international visitors to Bali, at least during the first two months of 2026. In that period alone, arrivals totalled 240,897 visitors, compared to a total of 1.6 million Australian visitors throughout 2025.
Currently, there are 11 Australian routes directly connected to Bali: Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Darwin, Cairns, Newcastle, as well as the two newest routes, Avalon and Sunshine Coast.
