Indonesian low-cost airline Citilink has recently inaugurated a daily direct flight between Jakarta and Bangkok, enhancing air connectivity and catering to the growing demand for travel between Indonesia and Thailand.
The first flight touched down at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport on Friday, the 12th of December, and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response, with all services operating at full capacity. This newly launched route also marks Citilink’s first international connection linking Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport directly with Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport. With the introduction of this service, the Jakarta–Bangkok route also serves as Citilink’s fourth international operation, complementing its existing routes to Singapore, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste.
The opening of this new route is part of Citilink’s efforts to prepare for increased mobility needs ahead of the year-end holidays. In addition to adding international destination options, Citilink is also providing 99,900 additional seats throughout the peak season to accommodate the surge in travel demand. This measure is expected to provide greater flexibility for travellers during the holiday period.
“Bangkok is one of the most dynamic cities in Southeast Asia, and through this route, we hope to provide more convenience and travel options for people in both countries,” said Citilink President Director Darsito Hendroseputro in an official statement received by the press on the following Saturday (the 13th of December).
Meanwhile, Thailand has consistently ranked among the most favoured destinations for Indonesian travellers. Between January and December 2025, the country welcomed more than 735,000 visitors from Indonesia, with numbers expected to reach one million in 2026.
“Indonesia is a highly strategic market for Thailand, with strong growth potential among young, independent, and experience-driven travellers. The launch of the Citilink Jakarta–Bangkok service strengthens accessibility, supports travel flexibility, and aligns with our direction to build sustainable, high-quality visitor growth across ASEAN,” said Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, the deputy governor for international marketing in Asia and the South Pacific for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), as quoted from the press on Tuesday, the 16th of December.
The Jakarta–Bangkok route is operated daily using an Airbus A320 aircraft and offers approximately 5,400 seats each month. The flight from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is scheduled to depart at 12.30 PM local time and arrive at Don Mueang International Airport at 4.10 PM local time with flight number QG 512. Conversely, the flight from Bangkok to Jakarta is scheduled to depart at 5.10 PM local time and arrive in Jakarta at 8.30 PM local time, operating as flight number QG 513.
