Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is preparing 688 additional flights during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.

Angkasa Pura Indonesia (API) is preparing additional flights to anticipate a surge in passenger traffic, driven by high travel demand during the end-of-year period. Requests for extra flights are common during peak seasons such as Christmas and New Year, as these holidays typically attract a high volume of passengers on both domestic and international routes.

“During this year’s Christmas and New Year period, there have been requests for 688 extra flights, consisting of 375 arrival flights and 313 departure flights,” said Heru Karyadi, General Manager of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Branch Office, at Terminal 1B of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang City, on Monday, the 15th of December.

Moreover, Karyadi urged prospective passengers to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport early to anticipate congestion and weather conditions, ensuring a smooth check-in and departure process. Peak passenger traffic during the Christmas and New Year holidays is predicted to occur on the 21st of December, 2025, for the Christmas holiday and the 28th of December, 2025, for the New Year holiday. The peak return flow is expected on the 4th of January, 2026.

API also predicts that 194,269 passengers will travel during the peak Christmas holiday period, particularly on the 21st of December, 2025.

“The peak Christmas holiday season is estimated to occur on Sunday, the 21st of December, 2025, with 1,146 flights and 194,269 passengers,” added Karyadi.

Additionally, to cope with the surge in passenger numbers, API has deployed 11,573 personnel, representing a 4.6 per cent increase, or approximately 160 additional personnel per shift. These personnel come from all airport stakeholders, ranging from operations and facilities to perimeter security. Furthermore, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is optimising passenger facilities and services, including increasing the capacity of check-in counters, baggage handling systems, and other public facilities.

The readiness of airside facilities, such as aircraft parking areas (parking stands), aviobridges, and runways, is also being continuously monitored and improved to ensure smooth aircraft movement.

“We urge prospective passengers to arrive early to ensure a smooth check-in and departure process,” concluded Karyadi.
