Indonesia Launches MaiA, a New AI Platform to Transform Tourist Experiences

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has officially launched the Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia (MaiA), an AI platform that tourists can consult whenever they need travel inspiration.

The platform was launched by the Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, at an event titled Transforming Travel Beyond Ordinary Through Intelligence held at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Friday, the 28th of November.

The launch of MaiA forms part of the Tourism 5.0 priority programme, which emphasises enhancing the quality of national tourism services through the use of adaptive technology and responding to shifts in global travel behaviour that prefers convenience without complicated procedures.

Wardhana highlighted that the introduction of this technology demonstrates the Indonesian government’s commitment to developing a smart, inclusive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem.

“This is our step towards providing tourism that is not only beautiful to behold, but also smart and inclusive for all,” the Minister said.

MaiA is available on the indonesia.travel website, and is equipped with a range of superior features, including personalised destination recommendations, automatic itinerary creation, interactive maps, and destination information summaries in multiple languages. With this AI platform, researching destinations no longer requires lengthy or tedious effort. Everything can be done in one place, offering a more interactive experience.

MaiA also features an interactive chatbox, voice input, and word correction capabilities, allowing tourists to ask detailed and flexible questions. Furthermore, MaiA is free for all site visitors and is available in several languages, including, but not limited to, Indonesian, English, French, Arabic, and Hong Kong (Cantonese).

“Whatever questions you have about Indonesian tourism, whoever the tourist is, MaiA will answer them,” the Ministry of Tourism’s AI Development Team Lead, Pradhana H.S., remarked as well.
