No Car Free Day in Jakarta this Weekend Due to Idul Adha

Car free day

The Jakarta city administration has announced that there will be no Car Free Day activities in Sudirman, Thamrin, and other areas of Jakarta tomorrow, 11th August, as it coincides with Idul Adha celebrations.

“This weekend, the Car Free Day event coincides with Idul Adha. Therefore, it will not take place,” said the Head of Jakarta’s Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo. The statement has also been issued on the agency’s official Twitter account, @disgubdkijakarta.

The Car Free Day event is held every Sunday in the areas of Thamrin and Sudirman, and every alternate Sunday in other parts of Jakarta. No cars and motorbikes are allowed to pass through the streets during the event, which generally takes place from 6am to 11am. The move was initiated in 2002 to reduce emissions from motor vehicles and improve air quality in Jakarta.
