6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Bali, No Tsunami Warnings Issued

The quake has damaged a few buildings in the area.

Am earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 has jolted Nusa Dua, Bali at 8.18am today.

The quake has damaged a few buildings in the area. Fortunately, no tsunami warnings or casualties have been reported.

The quake epicentre is reported to be 83km southwest of Nusa Dua, the famous tourism hub in the south of the island. The tremor could be felt in Lombok and parts of East Java.

“There is no threat of a tsunami. People should remain calm and not panic,” said head of Bali Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Made Rentin.

Five aftershocks followed shortly after. Some hotels in the Nusa Dua area reported minor damage after the quake. Earlier, it was also reported that the roof tiles of an elementary school in Unggasan fell and injured some of the students.
