The new Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) began its operations just before the Eid holidays.

However, many passengers remain confused and found themselves travelling to the old Adisucipto airport. It is though that they did not check the airport codes on their booking itineraries. At least five passengers are known to have made the error.

General manager of Angkasa Pura I Yogyakarta, Agus Pandu Purnama, said that most of the confused passengers have failed to board their flights, as both airports are pretty far from each other. It takes 45 minutes to travel by train from Adisucipto Airport to YIA. Agus further warned travellers to check their airport booking codes – YIA is used for the new airport and JOG is for Adisucipto.

Meanwhile, the old Adisucipto International Airport recorded a 73 per cent increase in the number of passengers during Eid holidays. On D day plus two of Idul Fitri, the airport catered 24,963 passengers.
