The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy confirmed that South Korean airline Jeju Air, Malaysian airline Batik Air Malaysia, and Indonesian airline Super Air Jet will commence new routes to and from Indonesia.
The Main Expert (Adyatama) of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Nia Niscaya, told the press in a statement on Tuesday, 23rd of July, that these three airlines will commence their new international routes sometime in the second half of the year 2024.
“Jeju Air will open flights from Incheon [South Korea] to Denpasar [Indonesia] beginning on the 27th of October 2024, scheduled to fly seven times a week with a capacity of 180 seats per day,” explained Niscaya.
As for the new international routes by Batik Air Malaysia, Niscaya noted that these routes will stretch from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to several cities in Indonesia, such as Surabaya, Lombok, Padang, and Pekanbaru. The inaugural flights are planned for August this year.
“For the Kuala Lumpur-Surabaya and Kuala Lumpur-Lombok flights, the inaugural flights [by Batik Air Malaysia] will be held on the 1st of August. Meanwhile, the [inaugural] flights for Kuala Lumpur-Padang and Kuala Lumpur-Pekanbaru routes are scheduled for the 10th of August,” continued Niscaya.
As for Super Air Jet, the airline is planning to launch a new flight route from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Aceh (Indonesia) beginning on the 3rd of August 2024. The aircraft will be able to cater to 180 passengers. Niscaya also pointed out that it is likely that the prospective passengers will not be strictly Malaysian tourists.
“If we observe, having Kuala Lumpur as the point of origin can be used by the people who live in Malaysia, of course, as well as others from different countries. This is because Malaysia is also connected to various parts of the world,” remarked Niscaya.
Super Air Jet has recently delivered a statement regarding its upcoming new routes.
“Super Air Jet hopes to provide convenience and comfort for passengers in exploring various interesting destinations, both in Indonesia and abroad. Let’s together experience a new experience in air travel that is fun and inspiring,” said the Main Director of Super Air Jet, Ari Azhari, in his statement on Tuesday, 23rd of July.
Despite the possibility of Indonesia welcoming more international tourists in the coming months, the dilemma surrounding the recent price surge of flight tickets is taken into consideration as well. Speaking to the press on Saturday, 20th of July, the Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati, said that the ministry is still reviewing this pricing issue.
“Currently, according to the results of our coordination meeting, we are conducting evaluations and studies on various aspects related to aviation, which include ticket price components, route planning, et cetera,” explained Irawati.
