Jakarta Stations to Have Special Ojek Areas to Ease Congestion

The Jakarta administration says that it will build special parking designated for ojek areas (motorcycle taxi) at 17 train stations in the city in an effort to reduce traffic congestion around train stations.

The parking spaces would be the area where both motorcycle apps and conventional ojek drivers would not only park but also pick up and drop off passengers, according to the Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ).

“We will prepare a parking area for them so they don’t pick up and drop off passengers on the road, which can cause congestion,” said BPTJ Head Bambang Prihartono during a focus group discussion on infrastructure and transportation policies in Greater Jakarta, as quoted by The Jakarta Post.

The pilot project for the ojek areas, Bambang said, will be built at Dukuh Atas station, near Sudirman Station, in Central Jakarta. The city transportation agency is currently in talks with market operator PD Pasar Jaya to use a parking area in Dukuh Atas, he added.

“Dukuh Atas is the pilot project and Tanah Abang [in Central Jakarta] will be next,” he said.
