New fine art gallery opens in Selong Belanak, Lombok

Sempiak Seaside Resort proudly announces the grand opening of Sempiak Seaside Gallery, the first international-level fine art gallery on South Lombok’s coast.

The gallery is dedicated to showcasing Indonesian-inspired art and artists. Located in a traditional lumbung building at the resort’s entrance, just steps from the renowned Selong Belanak Beach, it is set to become a vibrant hub for creativity and artistic expression.

Owner Rox Harvey shares,

“Since establishing Sempiak Seaside Resort as a pioneer of international-standard hospitality in Selong Belanak, it has been my dream to create an art space that not only highlights the exceptional talents of local and international artists but also fosters an environment for contemplation and creative exploration.”

A Collaboration for Artistic Excellence

In partnership with Elissa Gjertson, artist and founder of Selong Belanak’s acclaimed Plastik Kembali recycled art studio, and its global representative, Nyaman Gallery of Seminyak, Bali, the gallery offers a stunning collection of large-scale artworks. Gjertson notes,

“The timing is perfect for unveiling Plastik Kembali’s new direction, coinciding with the growing interest in refined art and design in South Lombok.”

Art-Viewing Experiences

The gallery provides two unique art-viewing spaces:

  1. Ground Level: A light-filled area featuring rotating artists, starting with a solo exhibition by Plastik Kembali, running until April 2025. Artworks are available for purchase, with local and international shipping options.
  2. Mezzanine Level: Showcasing Plastik Kembali’s world-premiere installation, “Cove”—an immersive art experience addressing ocean pollution through innovative recycled art techniques.

Melvine Amar of Nyaman Gallery highlights the growing interest in fine art in Lombok,

“With the influx of international hotels and a burgeoning design community, the demand for fine art is growing, and I’m excited to support Sempiak Seaside Gallery in this movement.”
