The Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia hopes that Apple will commit to realising the proposed investment to build a factory worth US$10 million, approximately Rp157 billion, in Bandung, West Java.

The Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza, speaking at the Indonesia Seamless Tube Summit held in Jakarta on Wednesday, 6th of November, shared that the ministry had been informed of Apple’s interest in investing in Indonesia. However, he expressed hope that this commitment would be fully realised.

We hope that the commitment that has now been communicated [Apple’s investment plan worth US$10 million] can be implemented as soon as possible,” Riza told the press.

Riza also disclosed that the ministry had reached out to Apple regarding its investment intentions. He noted, however, that further discussions are needed. Riza indicated that Apple’s level of commitment to investing in Indonesia was still considered insufficient.

“Yes, we have previously heard that Apple is committed [to investing in Indonesia], yet, up until recently, their commitment was still lacking,” Riza added.

Meanwhile, Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Machmudin, mentioned that he had learned about Apple’s plans for investment in Bandung, specifically regarding a factory for accessories and supporting components, through media reports. He has not yet received information about the precise location where Apple intends to establish the factory.

Machmudin further shared that the details of the location are expected to be discussed in a meeting scheduled for Thursday, 7th November.

“I asked, ‘Which part of Bandung?’ The details will be provided to me by those meeting with Apple tomorrow,” Machmudin told the press on Wednesday.

Regarding Apple, Riza also commented on the status of the iPhone 16 in Indonesia. The latest iPhone model has been banned in the country since its global release, as the Ministry of Industry considers Apple not yet compliant with the Domestic Content Level (Tingkat Kandungan Dalam Negeri or TKDN) requirements.

“Yes, we are still reviewing it. The Minister [Agus Gumiwang] will announce the decision soon,” he added.
