Jakarta: Two Train Accidents, One Killed

A woman was killed and the Commuter Line train schedule was disrupted in two separate railway accidents on Tuesday in East and South Jakarta.

A woman named Nuraini was killed in the East Jakarta incident when she was hit by a train in Penggilingan, Cakung, on her way home from a local market.

A witness, Zulkarnaen, said the accident occurred at 7.30am when the 58-year-old woman was crossing the railroad tracks.

“We [people in the area] shouted at her, but she didn’t hear and kept on walking,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

Her body was reportedly taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta for an autopsy.

Another train accident involved a motorcycle and a Commuter train traveling between South Jakarta’s Tebet and Manggarai stations, disrupting trains on the Bogor-Jakarta Kota route.

“The delay was caused by an accident in which a motorcycle hit [one of our trains] at 9.20am,” said Kereta Commuter Indonesia spokeswoman Eva Chairunisa as reported by kompas.com.

Trains on the route were delayed from 9:20am to 10:00am.
