A Celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Through Ink and Sugar

In celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Month, The St. Regis Jakarta continues its creative dialogue with renowned Indonesian artist Eddy Susanto to present Kanvas Rasa: Indonesia in Ink & Sugar, an art-inspired afternoon tea experience that brings together contemporary art and gastronomy in a celebration of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.

At the heart of this collaboration is Eddy Susanto, one of Indonesia’s leading contemporary artists whose works explore the intersection of Javanese heritage and global art history. As the creative force behind the iconic mural at The St. Regis Bar Jakarta, Eddy masterfully intertwines Wayang traditions with the history of jazz in Indonesia. Renowned for his distinctive visual language, he has garnered international recognition through exhibitions at the Singapore Biennale, the National Gallery of Indonesia, and Venice’s Giudecca Art District alongside the 59th Venice Biennale. Most recently, he was awarded the 15th UOB Painting of the Year in the Established Artist Category in 2025, further cementing his position as one of Indonesia’s most respected contemporary artists.

Inspired by Sembilan Mata Hari Centhini, Eddy Susanto’s artistic interpretation of Serat Centhini, this afternoon tea draws from one of Java’s most treasured literary masterpieces, which chronicles generations of knowledge spanning philosophy, rituals, arts, and culinary traditions. Translating these enduring narratives into a multisensory journey, Executive Pastry Chef Kevin Lee presents Kanvas Rasa: Indonesia in Ink & Sugar, a collection of sweet and savoury creations that reinterpret beloved Indonesian flavours through a contemporary lens. Each delicacy serves as an edible canvas, bringing to life the stories, memories, and cultural richness of the archipelago.

Available from 1 to 31 August 2026 at The Drawing Room, this limited-time afternoon tea experience celebrates Indonesia’s Independence Month through the traditions, flavours, and timeless narratives that continue to inspire generations.
