Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Arief Budiman, has confirmed that the KPU requires a maximum of 35 days to count all of the votes in the 2019 general election. The votes will be calculated manually, in stages, starting from the polling stations (TPS) up to the national level.
“KPU is granted a maximum of 35 days,” Arief told reporters in his office on T. However, it is possible that the vote calculations could be completed faster than the designated time limit, all depending on data entry from different parts of the country. The votes are counted manually, based on the Indonesian laws for election from the TPS, subdistrict, city/regency, all the way to provincial level, before finally reaching the national level.
People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) chairman Zulkifli Hasan also called for all parties to wait for the official vote count by the KPU. He made the statement in response to the two victory claims in the 2019 presidential elections.
Quick count result of several pollsters showed the Joko Widodo – Ma’ruf Amin ticket is ahead in the presidential race with 54 per cent of votes. The Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno team, however, claimed that they have earned 62 per cent of votes based on the C1 form data based, that is based on real count result in 320,000 polling stations.
