Indonesia AirAsia will open the Bali–Melbourne route on the 20th of March 2026, strengthening the airline’s expansion into the Australian market.
Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, the Acting CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, explained that as AirAsia’s first international route in the first half of 2026, the initiative strengthens social and economic ties between Indonesia and Australia, opens up opportunities for business collaboration, and offers greater access for travellers seeking to explore unique cross-cultural experiences in both destinations.
“Bali remains a top destination for many Australians, captivating the hearts of travellers, young and old. This strategic launch strengthens Indonesia AirAsia’s presence in Australia and opens a key gateway connecting Southeast Asia to southern Australia. The daily Melbourne–Denpasar route reflects our goal to provide greater, more affordable and flexible access between Indonesia and Australia. This initiative also strengthens social and economic ties, encourages business collaboration, and gives travellers more opportunities to experience the unique culture of both destinations,” said Abdurachman in a press release published on the AirAsia Newsroom website on Wednesday, the 10th of December.
In addition, the new route will offer more connecting travel options for Australian travellers wishing to explore Indonesia’s top destinations via the Denpasar hub, including Jakarta, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, and Labuan Bajo. Conversely, through Indonesia AirAsia, Indonesian travellers will have easier access to Melbourne, the wider Victoria region, and various other exciting destinations across Australia.
Furthermore, with the airline’s convenient Fly-Thru service, passengers will enjoy seamless connections from Melbourne to other popular destinations on the Indonesia AirAsia network—such as Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Phuket, and Singapore—without the need to reclaim baggage.
“The introduction of direct flights between Melbourne and Denpasar [Bali] is a tangible step in enhancing the strategic partnership between Australia and Indonesia. Beyond boosting tourism flows, this improved connectivity will benefit cooperation in economic, education, and cultural sectors, as well as encourage collaboration between communities in both countries. With this increased access, the relationship between Indonesia and Australia will continue to grow and deliver mutual benefits,” remarked Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, the Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne.
Melbourne has now become Indonesia AirAsia’s fourth destination in Australia, following Perth, Darwin, and Adelaide. To celebrate the launch, AirAsia is offering special promotional fares from Melbourne to Bali starting at AU$199 one way. Travellers can also take advantage of a Fly-Thru fare starting from AU$296 one way from Melbourne to Singapore (via Bali). Fares are available to book from today via the airasia MOVE app, airasia.com, online travel agents, and authorised travel partners.
