The five-star hotel unites Indonesian Icons for an evening of grand cultural celebration.
Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta marks its 62nd anniversary, commemorating a legacy that began as Indonesia’s first five-star hotel. Inaugurated by President Soekarno on the 5th of August 1962, the hotel was envisioned as a symbol of national pride and modern sophistication. President Soekarno collaborated with architect Abel Sorensen to realise this dream in just two years, establishing a landmark that would welcome guests worldwide during the 4th Asian Games.
A Grand Celebration of Culture and Collaboration
The anniversary celebration, themed “Icon of Indonesian Pride,” brings together a range of cultural experiences and collaborations that highlight Indonesia’s rich heritage and contemporary elegance. The event features a kebaya exhibition titled “Kebaya Kala Kini,” a collaboration between Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation and Didiet Maulana, Creative Director of Svarna by IKAT Indonesia. This exhibition showcases the journey of Didiet Maulana’s work, as documented in his book ‘Kisah Kebaya’ and the transformation of the kebaya over the decades. The exhibition will be available from the 15th of August to the 11th of September 2024 at the hotel’s grand lobby.
On the evening of the 27th of August 2024, guests will enjoy a lively Palang Pintu performance by iForte, guiding them from the Signature Terrace to the Bali Room. The event will also feature iForte’s Gending Sriwijaya, adding a touch of traditional grandeur. Indonesian icon Happy Salma will share an evocative narrative, and the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Batavia Madrigal Singers, and Avip Priatna, Founder and Music Director of these ensembles, will perform captivating musical pieces, enhancing the cultural celebration.
A Culinary Tribute to Indonesian Heritage, Inspired by Mustikarasa
The anniversary celebration at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta will feature a remarkable culinary experience inspired by the historic ‘Mustikarasa’ cookbook. Guests will indulge in an Angkringan-themed culinary market offering an array of traditional Indonesian flavours, meticulously crafted to honour the nation’s rich gastronomic heritage. The evening will culminate in a sumptuous four-course dinner, each dish crafted to showcase a modern interpretation of classic East Java flavours, the birthplace of President Soekarno. This culinary tribute not only celebrates the diversity of Indonesian cuisine but also reflects the hotel’s commitment to preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural heritage through food.
