Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has revealed the city’s administration is set to raid dozens of high-rise buildings around Jakarta suspected of violating rules on groundwater utilisation, waste water management and the provision of infiltration wells.
The raids will occur from March 12 to 21. A total of 80 buildings will be examined by a special team formed by the governor last month, regulated in Governor Decision No. 279/2018.
“The team’s duty is to supervise buildings (across the city). The team comprises, among other things, the Spacial Land Agency, the Environment Agency and the Industry and Energy Agency as well as an external party from the groundwater conservation agency,” Anies told reporters at City Hall.
The governor added that the team, which consists of 10 officials, will visit five buildings each day “to make sure that the buildings comply with all prevailing regulations”.
Anies went on to say law enforcement must also apply to large businesses.
