Bali Named Among World’s Best Destinations for ‘Dusking’ Travel Trend

Holafly, a travel internet connectivity company, has released the Global Dusking Index, featuring the five best destinations in the world for enjoying ‘dusking’, with Bali ranking among them.

According to a report by Euronews published on Monday, the 18th of May, ‘dusking’ is the latest travel trend inspired by the growing wellness movement. It encourages people to step outside at the end of the day, unwind, and savour the transition from dusk to sunset. The activity itself is simple: no phones, no rushing, and no productivity pressures—just appreciating the changing colours of the sky and the sounds of the evening.

Through the Global Dusking Index, Holafly ranked the world’s best destinations by analysing the physics behind atmospheric beauty. The study used four different criteria, ranging from clear skies and light scattering to natural surroundings and the destinations most sought after by tourists.

Each destination was assessed based on ‘atmospheric quality’, referring to the physical elements that make sunsets visually striking, as well as ‘digital desire signals’, which used Google Trends data to determine which locations are most frequently searched for by UK travellers.

Here are five global destinations considered ideal for ‘dusking’:

  1. Santorini, Greece

Santorini is almost always included on travellers’ bucket lists. Atmospheric data revealed that while the Cycladic island boasts vibrant skies, much of its appeal also comes from its popularity on Google, social media, and its high visitor numbers.

  1. Bali, Indonesia

The Island of the Gods is globally renowned for its spectacular sunsets, and data suggests much of Bali’s popularity stems from viral online moments. “Golden hour Bali” was found to be the most searched term across all destinations featured in the index.

  1. Tenerife, Spain

Located in the ever-popular Canary Islands, Tenerife truly comes alive at sunset. Data showed that the island benefits from crystal-clear skies and unobstructed sun geometry. It also remains one of the most sought-after destinations among travellers. Some of the best sunset views can be enjoyed away from the beach resorts and around Mount Teide.

  1. Amalfi Coast, Italy

The picturesque Amalfi Coast consistently scored highly across all four layers of the index, securing its place in the top five. As one of Italy’s most celebrated holiday destinations, watching the sunset over the Tyrrhenian Sea is considered among the world’s most romantic experiences.

  1. Maldives

The Maldives is best known as a honeymoon destination rather than for its sunsets. However, it completed the top five after the index found that it “demonstrates the clearest case of social dominance over atmospheric reality.”
