The Directorate General of Immigration inaugurated the Residence Permit and Immigration Information Service Unit in the Batang Industrial Zone (Industropolis) and Gresik Special Economic Zones (SEZs) on Wednesday, the 12th of November.

The service unit, called Immigration at Special Economic Zones (I’m SEZ), aims to bring residency permit services closer to, and more accessible for, foreigners currently working and operating in SEZs.

“I’m SEZ in the Batang Industrial Zones and Gresik serves as a pilot project for the implementation of similar services in other SEZs throughout Indonesia. This service demonstrates the presence of immigration services to support the acceleration and increase of national investment. Currently, 23 other SEZs across Indonesia are enthusiastic about providing immigration services in their areas,” said Director of Residence Permits and Immigration Status, Is Edy Ekoputranto, in a statement sent to the press.

On the same occasion, Bambang Wijanarko, Head of the Special Economic Zone Control Bureau of the National Council for SEZs, expressed his appreciation for the newly inaugurated Immigration Stay Permit service unit.

“We hope this kind of collaboration can continue to be enhanced to ensure ease of doing business as well as a conducive investment climate in Indonesia,” he added.

The inauguration of these Immigration residence permit service units was welcomed by tenants as well as area managers. The convenience and effectiveness of residence permit services—a long-standing challenge for investors—can now be addressed with the presence of I’m SEZ. Furthermore, I’m SEZ makes it easier for tenants to obtain information or seek consultations regarding the various immigration issues they face.

The inauguration of I’m SEZ in the Batang Industrial Zones SEZ, in particular, was attended by various relevant parties, including the National Council for SEZs, the Batang SEZ Administrator, and representatives of tenants who also use the service. Meanwhile, the inauguration of I’m SEZ in the Gresik SEZ was conducted virtually, attended by relevant stakeholders as well.

“The Directorate General of Immigration is striving to introduce various innovative breakthroughs, including in the areas of residence permits and immigration status, in order to improve friendly, fast, easy, and transparent public services,” Ekoputranto concluded.
