Jokowi Led State Funeral of Habibie, 3-Day Mourning Declared

President Joko Widodo led the state funeral in honour of B.J Habibie

President Joko Widodo led the state funeral in honour of the late Bacharuddin Jusuf (B.J.) Habibie at the National Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata, South Jakarta.

The funeral was attended by two ex-presidents and ex-vice presidents. The procession began at 1pm local time and concluded at around 2:40pm.

In his speech, Jokowi said that former president B.J. Habibie was a statesman that all should look up to as a role model for the nation. Earlier, the president also declared a 3-day mourning period to honour Habibie’s legacy. Former presidents Megawati Soekarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono were also in attendance.

Habibie was buried beside his wife, Hasri Ainun Besari, who passed away in 2010. Previously, their romance was featured in the movie called “Habibie & Ainun.”
