Jakarta Prone To Fire Outbreaks During Dry Season

Government has warned residents to actively take preventive measures to avoid potential fires.

As Indonesia enters the dry season, the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service Agency has warned residents to actively take preventive measures to avoid potential fires.

Rompis Romlih, Head of Operations at the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, has urged residents to immediately make a report to authorities as soon as a fire is detected, in order to prevent outbreaks and great losses.

Yesterday, a fire broke at Pelita School in Tambora, West Java. The fire engulfed a 140 square metre area, and was fought by 20 firefighters. It was extinguished in 30 minutes. The cause was found to be an electrical short circuit. As Tambora and Cengkareng are densely populated areas in West Jakarta, Rompis said that they are exceptionally prone to fire.

Shortage of water and the depletion of water resources during drought season often cause firefighters to run out of water so they often resort to other water sources within the vicinity.
