Trade Minister Enggartiasto Summoned by KPK as Witness for Bribery Case

Indonesia's Trade Minister, Enggartiasto Lukita

Indonesia’s Trade Minister, Enggartiasto Lukita, has been summoned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for an interrogation.

The minister is set to attend to the anti-graft’s interrogation session today, as a witness against Golkar Party lawmaker Bowo Sidik Pangarso.

Pangarso has been named as a suspect in a case of alleged bribery pertaining to shipping arrangements involving the country’s largest fertiliser company, PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company (PIHC).

In April, Bowo told the corruption investigators that he had accepted a sum of approximately Rp2billion from the minister. At that time, Bowo was serving as the chairman of the House of Representatives Commission VI, overseeing trade and industry.

Earlier, Enggartiasto’s office was raided by the KPK as they needed to follow up and verify certain information obtained from Bowo. Investigators have seized documents related to sugar trading, which Bowo was responsible for. He had allegedly received a total of Rp8billion from several people, including Enggartiasto and Asty Winasty, manager of PT. Humpuss Transportasi Kimia, a company which provides sea transportation for PT. Pupuk Indonesia Logistik, is a subsidiary of PIHC.

According to the KPK, Pupuk Indonesia Logistik had terminated its service agreement with Humpuss Transportasi Kimia. The transportation company, however, wanted Pupuk Indonesia Logistik to use its services again.
