President Joko Widodo has expressed hopes that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit today will result in a move which will benefit the global economy.

“The president hopes that tomorrow’s meeting will have a way out, and there is a significant breakthrough,” foreign minister Retno Marsudi said.

One of the issues discussed by President Joko Widodo and his cabinet, at a limited meeting before the G20 summit in Osaka, was the trade war between the USA and China.

Earlier, Jokowi and Xi had also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries at a meeting. They had focused on future efforts to reduce trade deficit between Indonesia and China. Xi Jinping expects Indonesia’s participation at the China International Import Expo (CIIE), which will be held this year. Minister Retno also added that last year Indonesia also participated in China’s largest trade exhibition.
