4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Bali, No Tsunami Warnings Issued

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake jolted Karangasem, Bali on 8th June at 6.51 am local time.

Head of the province’s disaster management agency (BPBD), Made Rentin, confirmed in a statement, “We’ve confirmed with BPBD districts and cities in Bali in light of the quake this morning. Based on the report from officers in the field, there are no casualties nor any material loss.”

Rentin also warned the public to stay calm and to always follow the directions of their local emergency officer. The head of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Denpasar, M Taufik Gunawan, explained that the quake epicentre was located 8.43 degrees south longitude and 115.77 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 26 kilometres.

He underlined the fact that based on the epicentre and hypocentre locations, the tremor was a shallow one. The earthquake was also felt in West Lombok. No tsunami warnings have been issued so far.
