Tito Karnavian: Jakarta’s Returning Traffic worse than Home-Coming Traffic

Return traffic

In order to reduce traffic at the end of Idul Fitri holidays, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian has warned the public to avoid returning to Jakarta on Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June.

“If all travellers return on Saturday or Sunday, it will be the peak of the Eid rush,” Tito explained. He advised those who wish to travel back to Jakarta to return on Monday or Tuesday next week, especially if they had already taken leave.

Traffic gridlock is more likely to occur during the return exodus than the home-coming rush. This is due to the fact that travellers have more flexible departure times during the home-coming period, yet only have a few days to return before commencing the official working week on Monday. Tito also encouraged travellers to keep track of the traffic situation via mass media and smartphone applications.
