An Indonesian man was arrested in Perth, Australia, yesterday, after officers discovered pornographic materials relating to children on his mobile phone.

According to the Australian Border Force (ABF), the 30 year-old man was caught during baggage checks before his flight to Bali.

“During the examination of his mobile phone, officers allegedly found three videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, and a further two videos depicting sexual activity,” an ABF spokesperson said in a statement.

The man was charged by Perth Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He has since been released on conditional bail, and is due to return to court on May 24.

Australia’s penalty for the import or export of child exploitation material is a jail term of up to 10 years, and a maximum fine of AU$525,000.

ABF regional commander, Rod O’Donell, stated that the ABF aims to protect the border from child exploitation. ABF officers are able to search the mobile phones and electronic devices of international travelers in airports.
