KPU Chairman: Participation Rate High in 2019 Election

Chairman of The Indonesian General Election Committee (KPU) Arief Budiman, has announced that there was a high level of participation in the 2019 election. It is estimated that 77.5 per cent of citizens aged 17 and above showed up to cast their ballot yesterday.

There was also a 65 per cent participation level for Indonesians abroad. “The voters abroad come from 67 overseas election committees (PPLN) from a total of 130 PPLN tasked to run and manage the Indonesia elections overseas,” Arief said.

The KPU also received over 14 thousand scanned copies of the domestic election (C1) form, showing voting tallies in their local polling stations (TPS). About 49 per cent of C1 forms are from abroad.
“Only 1.7 per cent has entered our system. The number will continue to increase,” he added.

Arief also confirmed that the election has been postponed in certain areas due to lack of voting slips and other logistical problems. In several regions, the voting and calculation process have also been affected by natural disasters such as floods and storms.
