Floods Hit Certain areas of Jakarta on Saturday Morning

Following heavy downpour in Bogor, West Java, certain neighbourhoods in Jakarta were affected by flood on Saturday morning.

On its official Twitter account, The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) announced that it had recorded rising water levels at the Katulampa and Depok sluice gates. Jakarta’s Ciliwung river too, was reported to have been overflowed on Saturday.

The Jakarta BPBD estimated that around 32 neighbourhood units in subdistricts of South and East Jakarta were flooded by 5.30 am on Saturday. The Rawajati subdistrict in Pancoran, South Jakarta, along with Cawang and Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta, saw rising water levels and were inundated by 10 centimeters to 1 meter of water. Following the under alert level status of Manggarai sluice gate, the agency urged Jakartans to be more alert, as floods could possibly hit other areas in the heart of Jakarta, such as Tomang and Gondangdia.
