Jazz Gunung Bromo: The Yin And Yang of Music And Nature

Jazz Gunung Bromo, one of the country’s largest musical festival which has become a stalwart of the cultural calendar, will take place again this year August 18 and 19 at Jawa Resort Bromo Amphitheater, Probolinggo, East Java.

Jazz Gunung Bromo is an annual festival celebrating ethnic jazz composition launched by artists Sigit Pramono, Butet Kartaredjasa and Djaduk Ferianto. First held in 2009, the trio has come to represent the festival’s strengths. Pramono, a photographer, is passionate about the Mount Bromo area and jazz music while Kartaredjasa is a renowned actor and beloved storyteller. Ferianto is one of Indonesia’s greatest contemporary musicians and is often invited to play for overseas audiences.

They share a passion for raising awareness of jazz music and to draw crowds to the picturesque Mount Bromo.

The venue features an open stage with a sky roof and stunning landscape, bringing together gorgeous natural views and the most-skilled musicians in the world in a celebration of Indigenous cultures across the archipelago and the world.

This year features a huge lineup of artists from around the world, including Paul McCandless with Charged Particles from the US and Brazil’s Chico Pinheiro. They will be joined by Sono Seni Ensemble, Ring of Fire Project feat. Idang Rasjidi and Soimah, Maliq & D’Essentials, Monita Tahalea, Glenn Fredly, Indra Lesmana Keytar Trio, Sri Hanuraga Trio feat. Dira Sugandi, Dewa Budjana Zentuary and the Surabaya All Stars.

Local pop and folk singer Monita Angelica Maharani Tahalea will take to the stage after launching her career after coming fourth in a season of TV talent contest Indonesian Idol. She will be joined on the line-up by producer and musician Indra Lesmana, son of iconic singer Nien Lesmana.

The festival offers airport transfer packages, as well as tours of the breathtaking Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park prior to the event. The park boasts a diverse and unique range of trees and flowers where the traditional Tengger community still lives.

Jazz Gunung 2017 will be held at the Jiwa Jawa Resort Bromo Amphitheater, Wonotoro Village, Sukapura District, Probolinggo District.
