EU High Representative Mogherini and Indonesian Foreign Minister Marsudi discuss tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia

The High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini spoke this morning with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, to discuss the current tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia and to coordinate messages ahead of the visit of the Indonesian Foreign Minister to Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The HR/VP and the Minister agreed on the need to reduce tensions in the region. They shared the view that the current tension could have important negative consequences, not only for bilateral relations but also for the region, the Syrian process, and for Muslim communities all around the world, from Southeast Asia to Europe.

HR/VP Mogherini and  Minister Retno finally agreed to continue cooperating on future initiatives that could help appease the situation.
