A 52-year-old man, identified only by his initial S, is reported to have stabbed a fellow commuter in the leg at a Transjakarta bus stop in Cawang, East Jakarta. The victim has been identified by the initials ES and is 29-years old. S was arrested shortly after the random attack. The extent of ES’s injuries is still unknown.
S told the police that he couldn’t stand people who sit in public facilities with their legs crossed. Police Chief Nurdin Ar Rahman told CNN, “It was as if he felt insulted. Feelings of anger surfaced.”
The police chief then discovered that S, who works as a consultant in Bogor, had carried a knife with him every day. Even though he appears to be generally healthy, he seems to be very bothered by people who sit with their legs crossed. The gesture itself is not considered to be against public etiquette in Indonesian culture. The charges against him are yet to be announced. The police are also investigating whether or not he would need to undergo a mental assessment.
