Foreign Minister Retno Receives UN Agent of Change Award

Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi received the Agent of Change award from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Global Partnership Forum (GPF) at the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi has been given the Agent of Change award from the United Nations at the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry revealed.

In an official press release, the ministry said that the award was given as acknowledgement of the work the minister had done especially to promote the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the handling of some global issues through humanity and peace diplomacy.

In her speech, Retno said that the award, which was from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Global Partnership Forum (GPF), will further inspire her to serve the people.

“This award will encourage me to work harder, for the people of Indonesia, for global peace and prosperity and for women across the globe,” Retno said.

UN Women and the GPF said that as the first female foreign minister in Indonesia, Retno is a role model and an inspiration for millions of women in Indonesia and the world.

Among the current initiatives Retno has led is Indonesia’s active efforts to resolve humanitarian crises, including in Rakhine State, Myanmar. Indonesia took the initiative in building communication with various parties including in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
