Stories of courage, resilience and self-expression came vividly to life at the Suara Warna Art Showcase, an inspiring initiative by The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali, that brought together artists, community members and advocates for well-being through the universal language of art.

Held in conjunction with World Mental Health Day, the opening evening welcomed approximately 50 guests, including media partners, art collectors, business partners and members of the local community. More than an art exhibition, Suara Warna created a meaningful platform for connection, reflection and conversation, highlighting how creativity can support emotional well-being and empower individuals to share their stories in unique and powerful ways.

The evening began with a heartfelt performance by Indira, a young artist from Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan Bali (YPK Bali), whose beautiful song set an uplifting tone for the celebration. Guests then had the opportunity to meet the participating artists, learn about their creative journeys and discover the deeply personal stories that inspired each artwork. On display in the resort’s lobby throughout the month, the showcase features works by intuitive painter Mira El Amir, watercolour artist Arina Proboningtyas, sculptor Ayu Sri Rejeki and talented young artists from YPK Bali. While their artistic styles differ, each collection reflects a common theme: the strength of the human spirit and the ability to find hope, growth and meaning through life’s challenges.

For Mira El Amir, painting became a language for emotions that were difficult to express through words. Her vibrant canvases radiate positivity and energy, yet beneath the colour lies a deeply personal journey of healing, reflection and transformation. Her work reminds viewers that even amid life’s uncertainties, light and beauty can still be found.

A journey of transformation is also reflected in the work of Arina Proboningtyas. After navigating a difficult chapter in her life, Arina discovered watercolour painting as a therapeutic outlet during her recovery. Having previously built a career as a musician and educator, she found a new form of expression through art. Inspired by nature’s endless palette, Arina is captivated by the harmony and beauty found in flowers and fruits. Through carefully layered watercolour techniques, she recreates these natural wonders with remarkable detail and authenticity, celebrating the quiet beauty that exists all around us.

Similarly, the sculptures of Ayu Sri Rejeki tell stories of courage and self-discovery. After years of supporting renowned sculptor Bambang Adi Pramono behind the scenes, Ayu stepped forward to establish her own artistic voice. Many of her works explore women’s emotional journeys, giving form to feelings that often remain unseen or unspoken. Throughout the opening evening, her thought-provoking pieces invited reflection and sparked meaningful dialogue among guests.

Among the most inspiring highlights of the showcase were the artworks created by the young artists of Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan Bali. Representing five children who spent nearly two years developing their artistic abilities, the collection is a testament to perseverance, imagination and determination. Guided by volunteer art instructor Mr Yoda, the children learned a unique painting technique that involves blowing paint across a canvas using straws.

Behind every colourful composition lies an extraordinary story. For many of these young artists, the process began with something as simple as learning how to hold a straw, control their breathing and direct airflow to guide the movement of colour. What may seem effortless to others required patience, repetition, encouragement and unwavering determination. Yet through perseverance and creativity, abstract patterns gradually transformed into meaningful works of art. Some children imagined ships, fish, people and other figures emerging from the flowing colours, creating artworks that reflect not only their imagination but also their unique perspectives on the world.

The showcase also highlighted the important work of YPK Bali, which supports individuals living with disabilities through rehabilitation, education and community outreach programmes. Beyond artistic development, these painting sessions help strengthen oral motor skills, encourage self-expression and create opportunities to build confidence and foster social connections.

“Suara Warna is a celebration of the incredible strength, creativity, and resilience that exists within every individual,” said Saraswati Subadia, General Manager of The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali. “Through art, stories that may otherwise go unheard are given a voice. We are honoured to collaborate with local artists and Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan Bali in creating an experience that inspires reflection, fosters meaningful connection, and supports well-being within our community.”

In line with the initiative’s commitment to making a positive impact, all artworks created by the children of YPK Bali remain available for purchase throughout the exhibition period, with 100% of the proceeds donated directly to the foundation to support its ongoing programmes and services.

More than an art showcase, Suara Warna stands as a powerful reminder that creativity has the ability to heal, connect and inspire. Through every brushstroke, sculpture and burst of colour, the exhibition celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and reinforces the belief that every individual has a story worth sharing.

At The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali, wellness extends beyond physical well-being. It encompasses meaningful moments of connection, self-discovery and inspiration. Through initiatives such as Suara Warna, the resort continues its commitment to helping guests and communities feel uplifted, empowered and connected to what matters most.
