Police Arrested Syndicate Group Distributing Drugs via Grab and Go-Jek

A drug distribution syndicate using the services of ride-hailing motorcycle companies, Grab and Go-Jek has been uncovered by the Indonesian Police.

“The drugs we have confiscated are methamphetamine and marijuana,” said Chief of Drug Unit of South Jakarta Resort Police, Vivick Tjangkung. Vivick explained that the police had arrested Adhe Ferdana Putra, 28, in a house at Pasar Minggu area. At the house, they confiscated 68 grams of methamphetamine, 43.7 grams of marijuana and a digital scale. The police suspected Adhe had been a drug courier for some time, based on how neatly he packed the drugs. However, Adhe denied the allegation, saying he has only done it a few times.

Another suspect, Mochamad Taufik, 38, was also arrested in Central Jakarta on Wednesday. He was in possession of 1.2 kg of methamphetamine, which was stored in a baby milk carton, a box and inside a mobile phone holder.

“The second suspect is also a courier, he is an employee, and is said to have only made 10 transactions,” the police added. According to Vivick, both suspects have only picked up drugs based on random instructions from the distributor, who they claimed to have never met in person.
