National airline Garuda Indonesia has been named on the list of the world’s 25 best airlines according to flight-focused organisation Airline Ratings.

In the ranking, Garuda Indonesia placed 24th in the World’s Best Full-Service Airlines 2026 category, solidifying its position as the only Indonesian airline to make the prestigious list in the 2026 assessment year.

The ranking by Airline Ratings emphasises the passenger experience during flights, including the quality of the cabin, flight crew service, and food served onboard. A team of independent reviewers conducted a series of in-depth surveys and assessments, which were completed earlier this year on Airline Ratings’ official website.

The President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Glenny Kairupan, stated that this achievement is a positive sign of the company’s ongoing performance acceleration and restructuring programme. He believes this global recognition is particularly meaningful amidst the challenging dynamics of the aviation industry.

“Amid a challenging global aviation landscape, this achievement signals tangible progress in our transformation,” Kairupan said in a statement on Thursday, the 30th of April.

In terms of performance, during the first three months of 2026, Garuda Indonesia posted a net loss, or loss for the year attributable to the parent entity, of US$46.48 million, representing a 39.2% year-on-year (yoy) decline. This decrease in losses was in line with consolidated revenue growth of 5.36% year-on-year to US$762.35 million. This growth was supported by increased passenger demand, improved yields, and a positive revenue trend.

Going forward, Garuda Indonesia is striving to make 2026 a performance turnaround phase. The state-owned airline is targeting the readiness of at least 118 aircraft by the end of 2026. This includes 68 Garuda Indonesia aircraft and 50 Citilink aircraft in serviceable condition.

“The company is optimistic that fleet recovery and consistent implementation of transformation will drive gradual improvements in operational performance,” Kairupan had said recently as well.

Back in April, Garuda Indonesia was named the world’s most punctual airline for the period of March 2026, according to a report from the independent global airline punctuality ranking agency OAG Aviation Worldwide, conducted through its OAG Flightview platform. The report found that Garuda Indonesia achieved an On-Time Performance (OTP) of 97.9%, the highest among global airlines.
