Beyond the Classroom: SPM Students Take the Spotlight in 2025

Beyond the Classroom: SPM Students Take the Spotlight in 2025

What happens when you combine curiosity, creativity, courage, and community? At Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM), the answer is clear: remarkable young people doing extraordinary things.

There’s something refreshing about meeting a student who’s genuinely passionate about what they do — not because they’re trying to win, but because they simply love it. Walk into Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM), and you’ll find many of those students.

Take Nathifa, for example. With pen, paper, and precision, Nathifa has conquered the academic arena. At the Olimpiade Sains Akademik Indonesia (OSAI) 2025, she secured the Silver Medal in English, showcasing her linguistic finesse. But she didn’t stop there — she also brought home a Silver Certificate (A) in Chemistry and a Gold Certificate (A+) in Biology at the Olimpiade Sains Akbar Nasional (OSAN) 2025. A triple threat in the sciences and the art of language, Nathifa is living proof that curiosity truly fuels achievement.

Then there’s Teo, a Year 10 student who brings music to life. His mastery of the piano earned him the Golden Prize in Piano Solo (Festival Class C) at the Rising Stars International Arts Festival & Competition in Vietnam. He also received a Commendation Award at the Musicmind Piano Competition 2025, and if that weren’t enough, Teo’s band stole the spotlight by winning 1st place at North Jazz 2025 and 2nd place at the Festival Band Competition celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the TNI.

Meanwhile, younger students such as Emma (Year 5), Thiphilia (Year 6), Zoey (Year 6), Allegra (Year 7), Ian (Year 7), Rayhan (Year 8), Noah (Year 8) and Maghia (Year 9) proved that age is no barrier to global thinking. Representing SPM at the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round in Seoul, they brought home medals in debate, writing, and academic challenges.

Raphael, from Year 8, made his mark with his powerful voice, earning accolades at international music festivals and competitions. On a very different stage, Ditha, a senior in Year 12, stood tall at the Jakarta International Model United Nations, where she was recognised as the Most Outstanding Delegate, representing the Russian Federation in the United Nations Security Council.

Not to be overlooked, Abel, also in Year 12, gained recognition in both the International Chemistry Quiz and the John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize, where he stood alongside Chloe (Year 10), who received a High Commendation for her work.

Even among SPM’s youngest learners, there’s no shortage of drive. Thiphilia, from Year 3, stood out in the International Kangaroo Linguistic Contest, earning recognition both in Jakarta and at the national level.

Beyond competitions, students like Jemma (Year 10) brought their creativity and initiative to real-world platforms, representing SPM with confidence and flair at the Erudio Indonesia Bazaar in Pasaraya Blok M. Meanwhile, Nicholle delivered a powerful dance performance at Sabang Merauke: Indonesian Broadway, showing that true performance isn’t just about choreography — it’s about storytelling, expressing emotion, and leaving a lasting impression.

🌱 Curious About What Makes SPM Different?

At SPM, these stories aren’t exceptions — they’re part of everyday culture. Students here are encouraged to ask “why”, to lean into challenges, and to think globally while acting with heart. They are taught not just how to succeed, but how to grow, to lead, and to care.

Come and see what’s possible when education empowers students to find their voice, pursue their passions, and rise with purpose.
