As Jakarta ushers in the new year, Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) enters 2026 on the back of a landmark year.
Following a series of prestigious international recertifications and a significant humanitarian milestone, SPM, which has two campuses in Menteng and Panglima Polim, is reaffirming its position as a “second home” for families seeking a blend of rigorous academics and strong character development.
Global Standards, Seamless Transitions
For the expatriate community, educational continuity remains a top priority. In September 2025, SPM successfully completed its Cambridge School Reapproval, hosted by Mr Daryl Khong, Cambridge’s Head of Business Development for Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
This reapproval ensures that SPM students continue to benefit from a curriculum that serves as a “global passport”. Whether a family’s next chapter takes them to London, Singapore, or New York, the Cambridge pathway at SPM enables a seamless transition, ensuring students remain competitive on the world stage without missing a beat in their learning journey.
Cultivating Tomorrow’s Leaders
Leadership at SPM is more than a subject; it is embedded in the school’s culture. On the 17th of September 2025, Sean Covey and the FranklinCovey Education team from the United States officially recertified SPM as a Lighthouse School. This rare distinction—held by only a small number of schools worldwide—recognises SPM’s commitment to the Leader in Me framework, where every student is encouraged to find their voice and lead with purpose.
“We are grateful for SPM’s safe and positive community,” shares Ibu Michelle Hutasoit, an SPM parent. “Our child has gained friends who have become like family at SPM, and the school is truly considered a second home.”
Excellence at the Heart of the City
While its outlook is global, SPM remains a pillar of excellence within Indonesia’s national education framework. In October 2025, the school’s Junior High School once again achieved an ‘A’ Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board (BAN), reflecting its high standards in school management and student outcomes.
“SPM is an exceptionally good school at the very heart of the city,” says Mr Yamin Fuad Bawazier. “As one of the oldest private schools in Jakarta, it offers a beautiful campus with a holistic learning approach, supported by outstanding staff and faculty.”
A Community That Cares
SPM’s commitment to character education was brought to life late last year through the school’s Parent Teacher Organisation (PTO). On the 17th of December 2025, the school community donated Rp50,000,000 to Save the Children Indonesia. This contribution directly supported emergency response efforts for families affected by floods and landslides in Sumatra, reinforcing the lesson that true leadership is rooted in compassion and service.
Experience the SPM Difference
As we look ahead to a bright 2026, Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri invites prospective families to discover its boutique learning environment in the historic district of Menteng.
Understanding that every family’s needs are unique, SPM is pleased to offer flexible private tours upon request, providing the opportunity to see classrooms in action and meet the educators who make SPM a leader in Indonesian international education.
