Apollo Hospitals India Expert Applauds MHJS Urology Team for Treating Prostate Cancer and Renal Cyst with Robotic Surgery, Expanding Access to Advanced, Globally Benchmarked Care in Indonesia
Mayapada Healthcare (PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk.) (IDX: SRAJ) continues to conduct knowledge transfer and expertise-sharing programmes (proctorships) with international strategic partners, including Apollo Hospitals India, to further deliver internationally standardised clinical services across the Mayapada Hospital network. Entering its fourth proctorship programme, the latest initiative focused on robotic urological surgery procedures at Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan (MHJS) on 26–27 August 2026.
As part of the programme, dr. Syamsu Hudaya, Sp.U, Subsp.Onk(K), FICRS, and dr. Stevano Lucianto Hotasi Sipahutar, Sp.U, FICRS, together with the MHJS multidisciplinary team and Prof. (Dr.) Sanjai Kumar Addla, MRCS, MD, FRCS (Urol), Consultant Uro-Oncological and Robotic Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, India, performed robotic procedures on two patients with different urological conditions: a prostate cancer patient undergoing radical prostatectomy and a patient with a renal cyst, using the da Vinci Xi Robotic-Assisted Surgery System.
Hospital Director of Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan, dr. Fiktorius Kuludong, MM, said that robotic urological procedures are part of the continued development of the Tahir Uro-Nephrology Center, one of MHJS’s Centres of Excellence providing comprehensive urological care, ranging from prostate enlargement, kidney stones, and kidney and urinary tract conditions to uro-oncology.
“For us, robotic technology is not simply about having the latest facilities, but is part of strengthening clinical capabilities and supporting our doctors in delivering more precise, safe, and controlled treatment. Supported by the da Vinci Xi Robotic-Assisted Surgery System, our medical expertise, and an internationally accredited hospital system through JCI¹, we are optimistic that we can continue to manage urological cases, particularly complex ones, with greater precision and safety. By optimising technology to deliver tangible benefits for patients, we aim to achieve better clinical outcomes and patient safety through patient-centred care,” said dr. Fiktor.
As the lead doctor for robotic urological surgery at MHJS, Dr. Syamsu Hudaya, Sp.U, Subsp.Onk(K), FICRS, explained, “Robotic technology does not replace the doctor’s role, but serves as an extension of their capabilities by supporting visualisation, control, and flexibility during procedures. Robotic technology enables surgeons to operate with enhanced 3D visualisation and greater instrument precision and control, particularly in complex and confined anatomical areas, while supporting a minimally invasive approach through smaller incisions.
“Most importantly, this technology must provide tangible benefits to patients, such as reducing surgical trauma and blood loss, supporting better recovery, and enabling patients to return to their activities and go home sooner, depending on their clinical condition. The benefits extend beyond physical recovery to patient comfort and quality of life. Ultimately, technology and clinical expertise must work hand in hand to deliver better outcomes for every patient,” said dr. Syamsu.
Serving as the proctor, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjai Kumar Addla, MRCS, MD, FRCS (Urol), who has experience performing more than 1,000 robotic procedures, emphasised that robotic surgery is now the current standard of modern urological practice globally, based on clinical cases, strategic considerations, and cost efficiency.
