The Indonesian government has officially introduced new fees for Indonesian citizens applying to relinquish their citizenship, as well as naturalisation fees for foreign nationals seeking Indonesian citizenship.
Under Government Regulation Number 30 of 2026 concerning Types and Tariffs for Non-Tax State Revenue (Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak or PNBP), any Indonesian citizen wishing to relinquish their citizenship through the application service for a decision letter on the loss of citizenship upon their own application submitted to the President of the Republic of Indonesia will be charged a fee of Rp5 million.
The Director General of General Legal Administration at the Indonesian Ministry of Law, Widodo, explained that the issuance of the new regulation was intended to accommodate changes to the ministry’s nomenclature. According to him, the recently authorised Government Regulation sets out hundreds of PNBP tariff types, with most remaining unchanged and others revised.
Widodo also emphasised that the tariff adjustments were made in consideration of current economic developments.
“Several types of tariffs, hundreds of them, remain unchanged. The rest [were] adjusted based on the dynamics and the current economy,” the Director General said, as quoted on Sunday, the 19th of July.
The recently authorised Government Regulation was signed by President Prabowo Subianto and promulgated on the 2nd of July, 2026. It will come into effect 30 days after the date of promulgation, which will be on the 1st of August.
With regards to changing native citizenship, the new policy, in greater details, dictates the following fees:
- Applications for the issuance of a decree on the loss of Indonesian citizenship: Rp3.5 million;
- Applications to regain Indonesian citizenship: Rp1 million;
- Applications for a decree on the continuation of Indonesian citizenship: Rp1 million;
- Issuance of a certificate of citizenship status: Rp500,000 per application.
Additionally, Government Regulation Number 30 of 2026 also introduces new fees for foreign nationals seeking naturalisation as Indonesian citizens. The fees stipulated in the regulation, to be more exact, are as follows:
- Naturalisation based on an application by a foreign national: Rp75 million per application;
- Naturalisation through marriage: Rp25 million per application;
- Applications to choose Indonesian citizenship for children with dual citizenship: Rp2 million per application.
