The Importance of Maintaining Health from an Early Age

Why Preventive Healthcare Matters More Than Ever.

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, has urged the public to maintain their health amid the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases in Indonesia. A number of non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease, stroke and cancer, are among the leading causes of death in the country. These conditions are chronic illnesses that develop over a long period of time and require significant financial resources for treatment.

“Keep your body healthy; do not wait until you fall ill,” Minister Budi advised on one occasion when speaking to the media. He reminded the public to take care of their health by undergoing routine medical check-ups at least once a year. This enables individuals to understand their medical history, so that any health issues can be detected early and treated promptly.

Public awareness of healthcare in Indonesia remains uneven. While some regions have shown strong progress, others still require improvement. Overall, Tangerang Regency is an area supported by adequate medical facilities, although there is still room for enhancement.

Healthcare services in Tangerang Regency are relatively comprehensive, supported by public hospitals, private hospitals and community health centres (Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat  or Puskesmas), with Universal Health Coverage (UHC) reaching 95.37%. Key facilities include 24-hour Emergency Departments (A&E), Intensive Care Units (ICU), integrated cardiac services, and maternal and neonatal care, with hospitals distributed across areas such as Balaraja, Kelapa Dua, Cikupa, Curug and others.

The presence of private healthcare services has played a dominant role in the development of Tangerang’s health sector. Private hospitals offer faster, more comfortable and more varied service alternatives. One example is the Bethsaida Healthcare network. This healthcare group includes Bethsaida Hospital Gading Serpong, Bethsaida Hospital Serang, Bethsaida Clinic Aniva Junction @ Paramount Gading Serpong, Bethsaida Clinic @ Paramount Petals, and Seraphim Medical Centre Gading Serpong.

Iwan A. Setiawan, Director of Sales & Marketing at Bethsaida Healthcare, stated that in line with the government’s vision of achieving Golden Indonesia, public health must become the primary foundation of development. Early detection is crucial, as the chances of recovery are significantly higher when diseases are identified at an early stage. Equally important, preventive measures are now increasingly affordable and do not always require substantial costs—particularly during the month of Ramadan, when maintaining optimal health throughout the fasting period and staying fit for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr is essential.

“Bethsaida Healthcare aims to help the public enjoy every important moment—from festive celebrations to homecoming journeys—with peace of mind. We are present as a one-stop healthcare solution, from prevention to emergency care, for all ages,” Setiawan explained.

According to him, healthcare today is not only about curing illness but also about maintaining quality of life. “We want people to remain healthy, active and confident when celebrating special occasions with their loved ones,” he emphasised. Bethsaida provides healthcare services for all age groups, from children to the elderly, supported by an integrated and digitalised system, modern technology, and comfortable facilities.

This perspective is reinforced by the Indonesia Health Insights Q1 2026 report by Halodoc, entitled “Bridging Health Readiness and Challenges from Ramadan to the Celebration of Eid al-Fitr.” The report presents an analysis highlighting how people adapt to lifestyle changes during Ramadan through to Eid celebrations, and identifies specific health challenges that emerge as part of this adaptation process. It identifies a “Health Adjustment Gap”, a condition in which the body’s readiness does not align with sudden lifestyle changes, triggering recurring spikes in specific health complaints each year.

In response to the public’s need for comprehensive and integrated services, Bethsaida Healthcare offers several centres of excellence, including the Heart & Vascular Centre, Women’s Health Centre, Women & Children Centre, Trauma & Orthopaedic Centre, Urology Centre, Digestive Centre, Aesthetic Centre, Wellness Centre, and Sports & Rehabilitation Centre. All services are supported by experienced and professional doctors with a strong focus on patient safety.

The Medical Check-Up (MCU) service provides comprehensive health examinations for early detection of disease risks and overall health evaluation. Packages range from basic to comprehensive and executive levels, including physical examinations, laboratory tests, organ function assessments and specialist consultations.

Bethsaida Healthcare also plans to expand its business operations with the addition of a new hospital in the Paramount Petals independent city development, as well as pharmacies, laboratories and other supporting facilities. This expansion aims to provide easier access to healthcare services for the surrounding community and to extend advanced healthcare services delivered by specialist doctors that are not currently available in the area.
