Djawatan Angkoetan Motor Repoeblik Indonesia (DAMRI) will soon introduce a new intercity and interprovincial (Antar Kota Antar Provinsi or AKAP) bus service operating between Jakarta and Denpasar, Bali, via the Trans-Java Toll Road.
A post on the official Instagram account @damriindonesia on the 14th of February announced that the DAMRI Jakarta–Bali bus route is scheduled to commence on the 6th of March, 2026, from Jakarta and on the 8th of March, 2026, from Denpasar. The new route will utilise executive-class buses with a capacity of 32 seats.
The service has been introduced to meet growing demand for a more relaxed overland travel experience across Java and the Island of the Gods. The journey will make use of the Trans-Java Toll Road to ensure greater time efficiency, with an estimated travel time of between 20 and 24 hours, depending on traffic conditions and ferry queues.
In Jakarta, departure points include DAMRI Kemayoran Station, Cawang Station and Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal, with buses departing at 4 PM Western Indonesian Time. From Denpasar, services will depart from Mengwi Terminal or DAMRI Denpasar Station at 4 PM Central Indonesian Time. The service will operate once a week from each departure point.
The service offers a comfortable overland travel option at competitive fares. The fare for the Jakarta–Denpasar route is Rp590,000 per passenger. This includes the executive ferry crossing fee, meaning passengers will not be required to pay any additional charges at the port. Tickets can be booked via the DAMRI mobile application, the damri.co.id website, or directly at the departure counter at the DAMRI pool. Passengers are advised to book at least seven days in advance to avoid disappointment due to limited seat availability.
Previously, DAMRI recorded that, during the long Chinese New Year holiday period, the bus service operated 1,490 departures with a capacity of 50,249 seats on its AKAP services. The high occupancy rate indicates strong public demand on these corridors, especially for intercity travel during the long holiday. During the same period, in addition to intercity services, mobility in the airport-based transportation segment, which acts as a first-to-last-mile transportation link, transported a total of 26,000 customers across Indonesia.
“Soekarno-Hatta [International] Airport was the point with the highest volume, serving more than 17,000 customers, followed by airport services in Surabaya, Batam, Yogyakarta and Medan, which also recorded significant customer movements,” said the Head of Corporate Communication at DAMRI, P. Septian Adri S., on the press release published on the official website of DAMRI on Thursday, the 19th of February.
