Mayapada Hospital Surabaya Introduces Heart & Vascular Centre, Setting a New Standard in Collaborative and Comprehensive Cardiac Care

Mayapada Hospital Surabaya launches its Heart & Vascular Centre, delivering comprehensive, internationally benchmarked cardiac care in East Java.

Cardiovascular diseases are highly complex and carry significant risks, requiring prompt, accurate and comprehensive treatment. In response to this challenge, Mayapada Hospital Surabaya (MHSB), part of Mayapada Healthcare, has launched its Heart & Vascular Centre — an integrated cardiovascular service designed to deliver collaborative, comprehensive, and internationally benchmarked cardiac care in Surabaya.

The Heart & Vascular Centre establishes a new standard for heart and vascular services by combining multidisciplinary clinical collaboration with a patient-centred care approach, supported by advanced medical technology. This model ensures optimal clinical outcomes and maximum patient safety, while also providing a more personalised, secure and comfortable treatment experience.

The launch marks a strategic step by Mayapada Healthcare in strengthening its integrated cardiac care ecosystem and elevating standards of heart treatment across Indonesia. Mayapada Hospital Surabaya serves communities across East Java and Eastern Indonesia.

Navin Sonthalia, President Director & CEO of Mayapada Healthcare, stated, “Mayapada Healthcare continuously enhances its cardiovascular service standards by integrating advanced medical technology, clinical expertise, workforce readiness, and active multidisciplinary collaboration. Through the Heart & Vascular Centre, we aim to establish an international benchmark for cardiac services across the Mayapada Hospital network.”

Dr Bona Fernando, BSc, M.D., FISQua, Hospital Director of Mayapada Hospital Surabaya, highlighted that cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of mortality in Indonesia and often presents with high levels of complexity.

“Mayapada Hospital Surabaya continues to strengthen cardiac care standards through the Heart & Vascular Centre with a holistic approach. Our centre delivers comprehensive heart and cardiac emergency services, focusing on vascular conditions, cardiac rhythm and electrical disorders, as well as structural and valvular heart diseases. Supported by the latest medical technology and active multidisciplinary collaboration, we ensure accurate, safe and evidence-based treatment planning. We also provide a dedicated Cardiac Advisor who supports patients and their families throughout the entire journey — from diagnosis and treatment planning to procedures and recovery — ensuring every medical decision is clearly understood and that care progresses smoothly,” dr Bona said.

Dr Bona further noted that the hospital’s commitment to rapid response and clinical precision is reflected in its achievement as Overall Champion of the East Java Code Blue competition, demonstrating exceptional readiness in managing emergency simulations, including cardiac emergencies.

Three Core Pillars of Service

The Heart & Vascular Centre is built upon three principal pillars:

Advanced Treatment

Providing cutting-edge, technology-driven cardiac therapies, including minimally invasive vascular procedures, arrhythmia management, and treatment of structural heart disorders such as valvular disease using the latest techniques.

Emergency Excellence

Delivering integrated cardiac emergency care with rapid, precise responses aligned with international protocols. The service is supported by on-site cardiology specialists and subspecialists available 24/7, as well as a preventive Chest Pain Unit for early detection of chest discomfort, whether cardiac or non-cardiac in origin.

Team-Based Management

Ensuring that every clinical decision and treatment plan is developed through active collaboration among a multidisciplinary team comprising cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiac anaesthetists and relevant subspecialists to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Multidisciplinary Clinical Collaboration

Dr Yan Efrata Sembiring, Consultant Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon at the Heart & Vascular Centre, emphasised that optimal cardiac care requires comprehensive clinical evaluation, appropriate technology-based treatment selection, and strong multidisciplinary coordination.

“At Mayapada Hospital Surabaya, we implement clinical collaboration through a Cardiac Board involving cardiologists, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular anaesthetists, and paediatric cardiologists. This multidisciplinary approach ensures the most suitable intervention is selected for each patient’s clinical condition.”

Available procedures include Coronary Angiography (CAG), Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), including complex PCI, management of valvular and vascular disorders, arrhythmia treatment, and advanced heart failure therapy supported by the latest Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) technology.

Dr Rerdin Julario, Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Arrhythmia, underlined the importance of maintaining high standards in arrhythmia care, “Heart rhythm disorders are critical conditions requiring rapid response, accurate diagnosis and appropriate therapy. By applying a collaborative approach supported by comprehensive facilities and advanced technology, we are able to deliver advanced treatment in line with international standards, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes and maximum patient safety.”

Similarly, Dr Samuel Sudanawidjadja, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, explained, “Interventional procedures are not merely technical acts, but a series of precise clinical decisions requiring strong coordination. Every intervention is carefully planned in accordance with international protocols to ensure safety, precision and evidence-based practice.”

Promoting Heart Health Awareness

As part of the Heart & Vascular Centre launch, Mayapada Hospital Surabaya is also intensifying public awareness of heart health through a series of health talks held from the 31st of January to the 26th of February 2026. These sessions involve community groups, corporate partners and insurance providers, featuring cardiology specialists and subspecialists who share insights on cardiovascular risk factors — including cholesterol levels, lifestyle and work-related stress — as well as early detection, prevention and advanced medical management.

Through these initiatives, Mayapada Hospital Surabaya aims to support improved quality of life and long-term productivity for the wider community.
