When it comes to choosing a serviced apartment for a short- or long-term stay, location is near the top of many people’s priority list.

In Jakarta, more than in many other cities, staying close to where you plan to be spending much of your time can be a simple way to cut the rush hour out of your day.

When it comes to location, PARKROYAL Serviced Suites is ideal for people who want to be close to the heart of the CBD. The property, which opened last year, is part of the Thamrin Nine complex, also home to the Pan Pacific Jakarta hotel and Indonesia’s highest restaurant, Keyaki. It is close to the Grand Indonesia mall, Dukuh Atas BNI MRT station, and the airport train and commuter line. From a transport perspective, in other words, its location has a lot to recommend it.

But while the central location and towering modern silhouette of the complex may suggest a very urban vibe, the view from all the way up there is more serene than may be expected. Large parts of the city lay spread out far below, and there is a striking amount of greenery as well as waterways visible in the building’s neighbourhood and beyond.

The design, starting from the lobby and extending to the rooms, is subtle, not brash. A soft colour palette and minimalist design help create an atmosphere of calm and functionality. There is a simplicity and calmness to the interior décor and design choices that help make PARKROYAL Serviced Suites a quiet oasis from the bustling city far below.

PARKROYAL Serviced Suites offers a range of suite types, from a studio suite to a two-bedroom deluxe suite. The majority are one-bedroom suites, and they come in multiple varieties: deluxe, premier, and executive, as well as the standard offering.

During my stay, I was in the one-bedroom executive suite. At 70 square metres, this felt spacious. A large window spanning a living space, dining area, and kitchen offered great views, as well as plenty of light.

There was an ensuite bathroom, as well as a standalone lavatory in another part of the suite. Having a proper bathtub, as well as a shower, was a treat. There was also a dedicated working space with a desk and plenty of room – ideal in a serviced apartment where guests may have a lot of work to get through.

The king-sized bed was wonderfully comfortable and lent itself to an excellent night’s sleep, without any noise wafting up from the city.

The office space is only one of the amenities that make this a functional base for a stay in Jakarta, whether short or long. The kitchen, equipped with an induction stove, microwave, and spacious fridge, as well as crockery and pans, is another, and there is also a combined washing machine and dryer, which made short work of my laundry. On top of that, daily housekeeping is offered.

In its kitchen, the suite had a capsule coffee machine. That was ideal for a simple coffee, but from a morning drink to late-night food, a feature of PARKROYAL Serviced Suites that I found useful was its room service offering. I tried both local and Western options from the menu and enjoyed the meals – well-cooked and delivered to the door.

In addition, on one of the building’s lower floors, a breakfast buffet is offered, including touches such as an egg station. The staff here were friendly and helpful, and the room was bustling with fellow residents. This is in a residents’ lounge, which in the evening offers a social hour.

That is not the only communal facility for residents. The property also includes a swimming pool, gym, and steam room.

In short, then, the mixture of facilities is well-suited to a short or longer stay, whether on business or for leisure. The location is ideal for the business visitor, but being in the city centre also offers a good base for a visiting tourist.
