Vice President Ma’ruf Amin is encouraging all stakeholders to improve the digital economy sector so that the Indonesian economy can be independent across micro, small, medium, and large enterprises.

“Digital independence must be a movement and have a shared awareness across the nation. Thus, every active role of the community further strengthens efforts to build sovereignty in the midst of various challenges of digitalisation,” said Vice President Ma’ruf Amin at the National Mass Media Convention in commemoration of the 2022 National Press Day, as quoted in Antara, Monday 7th February 2022.

Regarding digital developments in the economic sector, the Vice President said digitalisation has become the engine of the national economy. This was reinforced by the prediction that Indonesia’s digital economy will become the strongest in the Southeast Asia region, with a value of Rp 1.7 trillion.

There were around 21 million new digital consumers during this pandemic, from early 2020 to mid-2021,” he said.

The accumulated purchase value of internet users in Indonesia is also predicted to increase by 49 percent, from US$47 to $70 billion by the end of 2021.

“As digital transactions increase, global capital flows are projected to continue to enter and Indonesia will become the most popular investment destination in Southeast Asia, surpassing Singapore,” he said.

Therefore, the Vice President encouraged all stakeholders in the economic sector to try to make Indonesia have a strong bargaining position in the development of the national digital economy.
